OVERVIEW.  The Religious Education program at SJE (St. John the Evangelist) supports families who have been practicing* registered parishioners for a minimum of 9 months.  Our Religious Education program is tailored for children grades 1-5, who will journey alongside fellow child parishioners.  In order for catechesis in the faith to take root in children so that faith is practiced into adulthood, it is imperative that a strong home and parish connection exits with our Religious Education families, as this has also shown to be pivotal for the future vitality of our parish life at St. John the Evangelist.

Our catechists set a high standard in the lessons, assignments, and materials used in the classroom. We currently use the Faith and Life Series textbooks for all class levels, and in particular for our Sacramental Preparation class, the 3rd Edition Jesus Our Life by Ignatius Press. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) program materials are also incorporated for the First Communion classes.

All classes are structured to deepen your child’s relationship with our loving Father through Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, and the Holy Liturgy in an age-appropriate method.

Religious Education classes are held on most Sunday mornings from 11:15 am – 12:30 pm, this allows families to attend one of our two morning Holy Masses prior to attending class sessions.

Atrium

Catechetical formation outside of the home can begin as early as 3 years of age with our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 Atrium. Level 1 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based faith formation program for 3 to 6-year olds.  Children should be toilet trained by the start of the first day.

We are now happy to also provide a Level 2 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium experience for our 6-9 year old children. In Level 2, the continuing spiritual development and needs of the elementary aged child is nurtured within the context of the image of the True Vine.  Moral Parables and a deeper understanding of the parts of the Mass are included in this level of CGS formation.

Because this faith formation program has a limited number of spaces available, please complete this form if you wish to enroll your child in this program:

For more information on this newest offering please visit the CGS national website www.cgsusa.org.
