Matrimony

= Catholic Sacramental Marriage

Requesting to be married at the Cathedral. We are excited that you are seeking Matrimony (=Catholic sacramental marriage). We will do what we can to help you through this process for this to happen here at St. John's Cathedral. Here's an overview of what is involved:

  • CATHOLIC UNDERSTANDING. At least one person getting married needs to be Catholic. It is assumed that the wedding party is aware that a Catholic wedding has limited choices; i.e., the Sacramental rite is not to be improvised or otherwise embellished with outside influences. That means in practice that reading options are provided, as well as acceptable music choices. 
  • AVAILABILITY. The day/times are Saturdays: 10:30AM or 1PM. In some cases, weddings are also a possibility on another day if some other parish event has not been previously scheduled. We are an active parish, so NO weddings are scheduled on Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, during Advent, Lent & Holy Week, or other designated days. Day/times are not finalized until step 6 below.   • COST. The cost for non-parishioners is $2,000 that includes everything (unless you opt for extras) and $1,500 for parishioners (for at least one prior year who activly attend Mass and Holy Days of Obligation, financially have been supporting the Cathedral parish). Cost of the chapel (for 80 people) is less at $700. 
  • PROCESS. Requests must be submitted at least six months before the desired wedding date (see above for availability), and note that the day/time is not finalized until step 6 in our step-by-step process (see below).
